Svelte Developer
Development › Web Team
August 8, 2026
We are looking for Svelte developers to help develop the BARQ! website. We have a huge roadmap with many cool features that we want to add and we need you! With over 150.000 active users you will for sure know that what you build will be used by many of your furry friends, conventions and artists :3
We have a few brand-new websites set up with Svelte and we need all the help to build them out into fully featured sites used by our existing and potential new users. A selection of what you’d be working on:
- barq.app home page (adding knowledge base, roadmap, profile preview, blog)
- barq developer portal (allowing external developers to register their custom apps to be used with BARQ!)
- barq OIDC portal (allowing users to manage their sessions and integrations with other applications)
The tech stack in the websites:
- SvelteKit
- Tailwind
- TypeScript
You've got this
We think the following skills and commitments are essential for this role. You are always welcome to challenge these if you have a different view for the requirements of this role.
- You have experience with web development
- You have experience with implementing APIs (REST, GraphQL)
- You have a feel for design
You get this
- You'll be part of the amazing BARQ! team. You'll get a blue border in the app and be listed on the BARQ! team page. You will also benefit from all the supporter perks and early access to all features.
- You can decide when and how long you want to work. You're not tied to specific working days or hours.
Commitment
- You'll need to sign an NDA for this position.
- While we understand that this is a volunteer position, we do expect you to be available for your team and director. You should be available to take on tasks on a regular basis.
- For app development we work with projects and project deadlines. If you commit to working on a project with a deadline you are expected to make sure you commit to completing the project before the deadline.
- Since most of our team is based in the EU and contributes to BARQ! outside of their daytime jobs, our team meetings typically take place between 18:00 and 21:00 CET/CEST (Central European Time).
To make sure we can collaborate effectively, we ask that volunteers are generally available during this time window — this is especially important if you're applying from a different time zone.
How the interview process works
After you send in your application it will be reviewed by us. If we think you’d be a fit for our team we will reach out to you and plan an interview. You will be given a link where you are able to schedule a call whenever you are available.
After that will be a call where we will ask some questions about your experience and to see if you’ll fit in. Usual interview stuff.
After all interviews are held, and we have discussed with our team who will be best at this position, you’ll be onboarded.
If you don’t make it – don’t worry! There will be plenty of other volunteer openings soon in a variety of categories.
